VCT Stage 1 Masters Reykjavik 2022has not gone quite as expected. UnderdogsXERXIA Esportspulled off theirsecond upsetagainst North American juggernaut OpTic Gaming, while tournament favorites Fnatic are going home after losses to Ninjas in Pyjamas andZeta Division.
Team Liquid, who were invitedin place of FunPlus Phoenix, became the first team to secure their spot in the playoffs, despite originally failing to even make it to the event. Korean powerhouseDRXwas close behind, following dominant showings against Zeta Division and NIP.
In the meantime, regional top seedsThe Guard,G2 Esports,Paper Rex, andLOUDare already waiting in the playoffs.
Which teams qualified for VCT Masters Reykjavik 2022 playoffs?
Here’s a look at all eight teams that have qualified for the playoffs.
Teams will now play in a double-elimination bracket starting on April 15, a departure from last year’s single-elimination format.
The prize distribution is the same as the first Masters event in Iceland a year ago. The winner will take home US$200,00 in prize money, the lion’s share of the US$675,000 prize pot. In addition, they will receive 750 VCT circuit points that will go toward qualification for Valorant Champions at the end of the year.
All eight playoff teams are guaranteed a minimum of US$25,000 and 200 circuit points.
This is the same as EMEA top seed FunPlus Phoenix, who wereunable to attend. Theyreceived both circuit points and prize moneyequivalent to a 7th to 8th placing at the tournament.
