Activision has released Call of Duty: Warzone, a new free-to-play battle royale mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Warzone pits up to 150 players in the city of Verdansk for a new combat experience. Groups of three can be formed to play in two distinct game modes: Battle Royale and Plunder.

Battle Royale uses standing last-man-standing rules, while in Plunder, the player or team with the most Cash at the end of the game is declared the winner.

Multiple vehicles can be used to explore the map’s different zones. Players can get away with the two-seater fast ATV, the four-seater tactical rover, the well-protected SUV, the slow yet steady cargo truck, and even the helicopter perfect for covering areas.

Call of Duty: Warzone introduces unique mechanics as well. The game offers a chance for redeployment by putting eliminated players on a 1v1 battle in the Gulag. This mechanic is only available in the Battle Royale mode.

In-game quests called Contracts can be found all throughout Verdansk. Completing them gives squads advantages in loot, in-match Cash, and even the ability to view the next location to be bombed by deadly gas in the closing circle.

While Warzone is free for everyone and does not require a copy of Modern Warfare to play, the game is tied into Modern Warfare’s progression, battle pass, and item shop.
