East Coast Throwdown 2020 has officially been canceled in direct response to the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
Tournament organizers Joe “LI Joe” Ciaramelli made theannouncementon Twitter and stated that everyone should “look forward to a brighter and more exciting 2021.”
A love letter to you all. I’ll miss you tremendously this year. Let’s look forward to a brighter and more exciting 2021 ♡. Thank you for the support and understanding.https://t.co/FlsKqShFgopic.twitter.com/Oo2fPyxAH0
ECT tournament organizers are now focused on hosting next year’s event, which is already set to take place on September 3-5, 2021.
They’re also looking into producing an East Coast Throwdown special on October 2-4, 2020, which was the same weekend the event would have been held. The ECT team wants to provide a studio-based production with a live stream experience “showcasing some of the best native East Coast talent from players, commentators, and figureheads to give fans a unique variety show of sorts.”
East Coast Throwdown 2020 was going to be the first time the event was set to feature a Capcom Pro Tour Premier.
