Mortal Kombat is getting a live-action reboot
But can it live up to the 1995 Christopher Lambert classic?
A new Mortal Kombat live-action film is in the works and we can’t wait to see how the controversial videogame gets adapted for the silver screen.
With the widespread popularity of Mortal Kombat 11 and interest in videogame movies at a high (mostly thanks to Detective Pikachu), this may be the best time to reignite the cinematic presence of Mortal Kombat.
Warner Bros. has already begun pre-production on the film, which will be shot in South Australia, and will be the largest film ever produced there.

Aquaman and Furious 7 director, James Wan, will be producing the movie, with Greg Russo writing the screenplay, and features Simon McQuoid making his directorial debut. McQuoid is mostly known as a commercial director, but he does have some experience bringing video games to the screen, directing Sony’s “Michael” commercial for the PlayStation 3 back in 2011.
If anyone has concerns if our director, Simon McQuoid, will stay faithful to MK, I urge you to go back and look at some of the VG commercials he directed. His PS3 “Michael” spot still gets me every time I watch it.PS3 Michael Commercialhttps://t.co/cMZhdxMskWvia@YouTube
The MK reboot will have some big shoes to fill — the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie starring Robin Shou and Christopher Lambert grossed overUS$122 millionand has since become a cult classic.
