NBA 2K League suspended following suspension of actual NBA

With the NBA season already suspended, the NBA 2K League has followed suit.

The NBA 2K League has postponed the start of its 2020 season, which was scheduled to tip-off on March 24, due to the worsening COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic in the United States.

The NBA 2K League’s decision to postpone the start of its season follows theindefinite suspension of the 2019-2020 NBA seasonon March 12 after Utah Jazz player Rudy Gobert tested positive for the virus.

Two NBA players have since tested positive for the virus, with the other being Gobert’s Jazz teammate Donovan Mitchell.

“The health and well-being of our players, teams, and fans is of paramount importance,” said NBA 2K League Managing Director Brendan Donohue in astatementon the official NBA 2K League Twitter account.

While the NBA 2K League has yet to provide a date for when its 2020 season will begin once more, league play will still continue as the league’s teams will be remotely competing in online preseason competitions.

“We will continue to evaluate the situation and do everything possible to bring the excitement of the NBA 2K League to our fans through remote preseason exhibitions and other content. We look forward to sharing additional information about these exhibitions and the start of the 2020 season as it becomes available,” added Donohue.

The NBA 2K League’s 2020 season would have been a monumental one, as the league welcomed two additional franchises — including its first one to be based in Asia, theGen.G Shanghai Tigers— on top ofmoving to a new studio in Manhattan, New York.
