Ninja won’t play in the Fortnite World Cup

Fortnite’s biggest tournament will take place without its most recognizable superstar.

Fortnite’s biggest star, Richard Tyler “Ninja” Blevins will not be playing in the Fortnite World Cup.

Theinfluential gamer and streamerfailed a last-ditch effort to make the cut for the highly anticipated battle royale tournament’s duos division.

Playing alongside Malachi “Reverse2k” Greine, Ninja only made it past Thursday’s duos competition preliminaries. In the final qualifier round held Friday, the pair fell 25 points shy of making it to the World Cup.

Ninja had already failed to qualify in the solo division, failing to place even top 10 in the last solo qualifiers held two weeks ago.

The Twitch star opted not to stream his duos qualifier attempt, but did acknowledge the unfortunate results on social media.

Despite failing to qualify, Ninja assures his fans that he will still be in New York City “no matter what”.

Ninja joins other high-profile Fortnite stars who have failed to book a seat to the World Cup.

The list includes Team Liquid’s Jake “Poach” Brumleve, Ryan “Chap” Chaplo, and  Thomas “72hrs” Mulligan, FazeClan’s Dennis “Cloak” Lepore and Nick “NICKMERCS” Kolcheff, Ghost Gaming’s Dylan “Dmo” Moore and Liam “Kamo” Fillery, NRG’s Mason “Symfuhny” Lanier, and Luminosity’s Ali “SypherPK” Hassan.

TheFortnite World Cupwill be held at New York City’s Arthur Ashe Stadium from July 26-28. The tournament will feature 100 players duking it out for a slice of the massive US$30 million prize pool — with the solo winner expected to bring home a whopping US$3 million.
