Pokémon Unite could become the next big esports title
It’s time to be the very best, like no one ever was.
Tencent’s upcoming Pokémon-themed multiplayer online battle arena, Pokémon Unite, has a huge potential in the esports scene.
The developers of the game have stated that they are open to the possibility of steering Pokémon Unite in a competitive direction, especially if players have a demand for it, according to a Japanese interview byDimeas translated by Daniel Ahmad.
Pokémon Unite might hold world championships similar to Pokkén Tournament’s format, Pokémon’s fighting game franchise. If that were the case, Pokémon Unite could be played in a double elimination bracket with a best-of-five format similar to the2019 Pokkén Tournament World Championships.
While its global release date has not been finalized yet, some esports playershave already expressed their interest in going pro for Pokémon Unite.
Pokémon Unite is a 5v5 strategic team battle game launching on the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. It is under development by The Pokémon Company and Tencent’s TiMi Studios, with Masaaki Hoshino as the game producer.
– There will be no esports focus initially but the game could become an established esports if the player base takes it in that direction.– Would be interested in doing world championships like with Pokken Tournament.pic.twitter.com/2D5WOr77o5
