Rapper Meek Mill is looking for players for his own esports team

Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill has announced that he is starting his own esports organization, and that he is looking for talent to add to his team.
Meek Mill, whose real name is Robert Rihmeek Williams, confirmed his intentions to start his own esports organization after a fan asked to join his team on Twitter.

Meek Mill previously said that he will be starting a sports agency during a Q&A session on Twitter back in January. The rapper said that his “agency” — which is now apparently an esports organization — will be coming soon.

While revealing his esports aspirations on Twitter may not exactly be a formal announcement, a number of esports players have already shown interest in Meek Mill’s organization. These included notable Call of Duty players Dillon ‘Attach’ Price of FaZe Clan, as well as Trei ‘Zer0’ Morris and Matthew ‘Skrapz’ Marshall — whose previous organization, Red Reserve, reportedly ran into financial troubles.

Meek Mill is not the first rapper to go public with their intentions to have an esports team.
In December 2018, Soulja Boy told TMZ that he will be launching an esports organization to compete in Fortnite: Battle Royale, Call of Duty, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and Overwatch. According to the Atlanta-based rapper, he was inspired to pursue an esports venture by his friend, the massively popular Fortnite streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins.
The fact that there is yet another rapper interested in owning an esports organization speaks to the growing influence of the esports industry. With mulitple traditional sports figures and franchises already on board, it should be only a matter of time before more and more influential people start hopping on the esports bandwagon.
