In theofficial dev blog, Yetter explained that Riot has always been exploring ways to improve efficiency and quality in the ranked experience. Though it may be a more competitive atmosphere, it shouldn’t be an extremely arduous task to want to improve or stay in your ranks.

“Towards the goal of improving progression satisfaction and skill expression in our systems, it’s looking likely that we’ll be removing inter-division promotions to reduce frustration of seemingly hitting a wall when you know you’ve been playing well,” stated Yetter. “This means we’ll also need to look at inter-division demotion protections to make sure that players are able to get where they should be in both directions without false limitations.”

With modes and games like Teamfight Tactics and Legends of Runeterra already opting out of such a ranked format, Riot may have learned that people will enjoy the game more without the idea of a proving ground at the top of your rank. We’ll likely see a vast improvement in players ranking up and having good in-game behavior because of a more lax ranking system.

Along with the omission of the promo-series, Riot is also looking at ways to even out the player skill-levels in matchmaking, making sure you’re always paired with people in the same climb. Not only will this help in camaraderie, but it’ll lessen the chances of new players going up against established veterans in a lower rank.

Though it may take some time for these changes to reach the Summoner’s Rift, it’s reassuring to know that Riot is looking out for the players, especially those who struggle with the season grind.
