Shroud loses 85% of viewers after moving to Mixer

It looks like viewers aren’t looking to switch platforms, even for their favorite streamers.

World-renowned streamer Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek made headlines back in late October when he announced his move from Twitch to stream exclusively on Mixer. But now, his viewership numbers have taken a dramatic 85% drop, according to a report byStreamMetrics.

In October 2019, Shroud’s last month on Twitch, he had a live stream viewership that reached 718,000 unique viewers. Fast forward to November, he only had 231,000 unique viewers under his new Mixer platform.

Shroud’s switch to Mixer cost the popular streamer a big hit to his overall viewership. Only 15% of Shroud’s US viewers watched him stream on Mixer, the report adds.

The silver lining for Shroud is that he was able to retain nearly half (47%) of his Twitch audience who decided to make the jump to Mixer. More than half of Shroud’s viewership in November was from new users on Mixer, which means Microsoft’s gamble of locking up Shroud on an exclusivity streaming deal helped the platform boost active users.

It will be interesting to see how the upcoming months develop for Shroud and Mixer since Microsoft handed the latter’s viewers free subscriptions to Shroud’s channel for the month of November.
